The Museum of Contemporary Art first opened its doors in 1990. It shows temporary exhibitions of both loaned works and works from its own collections. Visitors can see five permanent installations: the sculpture Shaft by Richard Serra, Per Inge Bjørlo’s Inner Room V, Ilya Kabakov’s The Garbage Man: The Man Who Never Threw Anything Away, Marianne Heier's Promesse de bonheur and (from 15 May 2014) two gallery rooms dedicated to Louise Bourgeois. 

The National Museum’s collection of contemporary art contains some 5,000 works by Norwegian and international artists from the years since 1945. The collection covers a broad spectrum of genres and media: painting, print-making, drawing, photography, sculpture, objects, installation and video-art.

Sundays: Free entrance for all.

The ticket gives access for one day to all our museum buildings in Oslo (the National Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Museum - Architecture, the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design).
