Shandy Hall

Shandy Hall is an Accredited Museum and is owned by the Laurence Sterne Trust. It contains a collection of books, paintings, manuscripts, prints and ephemera relating to the writer Laurence Sterne. This collection of editions of Sterne's works (largely collected by Kenneth Monkman the founder of the Trust) is internationally recognised. Shandy Hall is open to the public on advertised days during the summer and by appointment. Two acres of beautiful gardens surround the building and are open to the public as a separate attraction. Within the grounds there is a converted granary containing a gallery space on the first floor and self-contained accommodation on the ground floor. The outbuildings contain a shop and facilities.

The house is situated close to the church in the village of Coxwold, approximately 15 miles north of York, and close to the market towns of Thirsk and Easingwold. The village has around 150 inhabitants, a public house, The Fauconberg Arms, Coxwold Tearooms and a pottery.
