Naval school of medecine, Rochefort

The Naval School of Medicine Rochefort was founded in 1722. This is the first in the world. For over 240 years, it forms surgeons on board warships. In 1788, the school moved into a house of the new naval hospital, who was that time the most modern in the realm, and remain there. Health officers Rochefort actively participate in voyages of exploration around the world. The collection of human anatomy, ethnography and natural history and the library will then grow and be organized on three floors of the building.

The school stands today as it was in the middle of the XIX th century. Powerful and moving, it opens onto a dense story that combines science, technology, politics and society.
