Picturering the Bronze Age

Life and Art, living conditions and the magic of images are closely connected in prehistoric times. The rock carvings testify to this.
The thousands of rock carvings in Bohuslän - especially Tanums World Heritage Area - are one of the most marvellous traces of the people from the Bronze Age. The figures are surrounded with myths and magic. Just as the archeological findings, the rock carvings tell us about the prehistoric religion and the primary living conditions. The figures radiate beauty and power, so it is not hard to understand that even today many of us are fascinated and excited about them.

Within Tanums World Heritage Area there are 4 rock carvings which are painted and easy accessible. However, the area has over 500 rocks with images, which are situated in the landscape and more difficult to find. Nevertheless, these images are just as spectacular.
