Palette used to grind up minerals to paint around the eye. Black galena or green malachite was used.
Stone palette of diorite. Remains of inscription on the object reads 'Flat...stone....from Naqada...Casira Jan 27 1902 cd No2.' The label reads '1062. Predynastic'. The Naqada Period is named after the type site in Upper Egypt, just north of Thebes. Such hardstone palettes are also found in Nubia.
