This outfit is part of the Autumn/Winter collection of 2001 and shows the continuing popularity of the trouser suit for women. The jacket is single-breasted and closes with a single rectangular gilt button, it has curved edges at the bottom and two pockets at the hip. The trousers are narrow at the top and flare at the bottom. The outfit is completed with a white lycra vest top. The glamour of late 1970s dressing, the trouser suit and the colour white are all recalled in this outfit which would have been suitable for both day and evening wear.
The early years of the new Millennium have seen a rise in interest in young British fashion designers, many of whom have been attracted to design for major international fashion houses. One of these designers is Stella McCartney whose 1970s-inspired tailoring influenced the resurgence of interest in styles such as this.
