Mexican artist's 25-ton cast bronze sculpture of two thumbs arrives on Trafalgar Square

Mexican artist Rivelino's sculpture arrives on King Charles Island in Trafalgar Square as part of Dual Year of UK and Mexico 2015
© Eduardo Landa You, a monumental sculpture by the Mexican artist Rivelino, has been installed on King Charles Island in Trafalgar Square in the first in a series of high-profile unveilings of contemporary Mexican sculpture across the capital this month to coincide with the celebratory Dual Year of UK and Mexico 2015.
© Eduardo Landa Contemporary Mexican Sculpture: The Vision of Four Artists is a unique exhibition of new large-format sculpture in volcanic stone, bronze and resin by celebrated sculptors Yvonne Domenge, Jorge Yazpik, Paloma Torres and Rivelino, representing four successive generations of Mexican artists in London.
© Eduardo Landa The four monumental works will be placed in various locations across the city. Rivelino’s colossal 25-ton sculpture features two index fingers, equal in weight, colour and size, pointing towards each other in commanding fashion.
© Eduardo Landa “In a world that is self-evidently unequal, You calls upon viewers to question their attitude towards the highly significant issue of equality between human beings,” says the artist.
© Rivelino Rivelino was born José Rivelino Moreno Valle in 1973 and gained international acclaim with Nuestros Silencios (Our Silences), a monumental sculptural installation sculpture which toured in nine European cities and exhibited at the Mexican Pavilion at Shanghai Expo in 2010.
