Schaubergwerk "Kupferplatte"
How would you like to experience (without doing the actual word) what copper mining was like more than 3000 years ago? The mine, named "Copperplate" will give you a unique opportunity to see how they mined (with life size figures). When the industry was at its most productive, 160 miners extracted some 1800 tons of copper ore each year.
Because of the international economical crisis the mines were closed down in 1926 and the maze of shafts and tunnels abandoned till in 1990 the mining exhibit "Copperplate" was opened.
Visitors travel on the old mining train into the shafts. Along 150 meters of tunnels our guides explain how the copper was mined, what equipment was used and how the shafts were maintained.
Hourly tours start at 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15 and 16 o´clock. Tours last approx. 1/2 hour. Temperature in the mine is about 9 ° C - warm clothing is recommended!
