Treasure Under Your Feet

The discovery of ancient treasure arouses great excitement. Not only does the misfortune of the original owner become good luck for the finder, but the objects themselves can bring us into direct emotional contact with the people who used them.

From a Bronze-Age torc and a Tudor jewel to Viking hack-silver and gold coins of the Civil War, Treasure Under Your Feet tells the story of various finds from the East of England that have contributed to our understanding of the life and times of our predecessors. The exhibition draws on public and private collections in the region, as well as from the Fitzwilliam’s own holdings.
