The world-wide community of museums celebrates International Museum Day on 18 May 2017!
In light of this year's theme (Museums and Contested Histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums), local artist, Dr TREVOR BORG will be delivering an exclusive talk on the realm of collecting as a form of artistic practice.
‘Uncollectables’ acquire meaning and value through the transformative process of art making whereby new histories are produced and realities imagined. Collection-based artworks imbricate non-taxonomic methods that evoke the cabinet of curiosities with contemporary critical discourse and, from such an amalgam, new possibilities for meaning-making may emerge. Moreover, uncollectable artefacts loosely located in a museological milieu allow for unlikely and ambiguous connections and assemblages comprised of fluid accumulations and juxtapositions.
