In this talk author of ‘Shakespeare in Swahililand’ (2016), Edward Wilson-Lee, will tell some of the extraordinary stories of how Shakespeare's works found a new home in Africa, among explorers, freed slaves, railway labourers, emperors and independence fighters. Each of these stories sheds new light on what Shakespeare's plays have meant to people in unexpected places, and help to ask the perennial question about Shakespeare: is he for all times and all places?
