Chertsey Museum is proud to present the first retrospective exhibition of the art of Kenneth Anns,1891–1962, Walter Sickert’s unknown student.
Kenneth Anns studied with Walter Sickert before the First World War, such was his natural talent. He then signed up and was sent to France. being awarded an MC in June 1916. He was captured at Cambrai in 1917 and taken to Karlsruhe. After the war he trained as an interior designer, worked for Waring and Gillows and then became an architect.
His work covers the period from when he was 10 years old to his very last paintings. He was an excellent watercolourist, but also worked in oils and printmaking.
Kenneth Anns purchased The Cedars in 1958 and lived there with his wife Margaret and their two daughters. Kenneth died in 1962 and Margaret sold The Cedars to the Olive Matthews Collection trust in 1971. Since that time The Cedars has housed Chertsey Museum.
