Ever wanted to know how fast a penguin can swim or why parrots have brightly coloured feathers? Join us for Bird Conservation Week as we answer these questions and as we raise awareness for some of our favourite feathered friends.
Discover the wonderful world of birds with our expert keepers, hear about how threatened, vulnerable and endangered species are protected in the wild and in captivity, and join in with hands on activities including badge making and explorer trails.
What’s on during Bird Week?
Penguin Feeding Time!
Head to the Penguin Terrace at 1:45pm and learn about our family of Humboldt penguins. Meet Spot, Geoff, Mr Otto and the gang, watch them swim with our underwater viewing area and join them for a fishy lunch as they get fed by our keepers.
Conservation Live!
At 3pm each day, our keepers will explore the lives of our birds including some of the rare and endangered species we protect in the Harewood Bird Garden. Meet our keepers at 3pm in the Bird Garden and join a different talk each day.

Why does Harewood support bird conservation charities?
Here at Harewood, conservation is integral to everything we do. Each year, money generated from your ticket entry is injected into conservation projects in the Bird Garden, House and grounds.
As a designated zoo, Harewood’s Bird Garden is recognised for the richness of the rare species we protect. As such, we have an important responsibility to protect birds and habitats from extinction, and support conservation projects both in-situ and abroad. As an active member of BIAZA (British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums) we help contribute to the 800 field conservation projects run across the country.
As part of Bird Week, we are raising funds for conservation charities to support their important work with endangered species.
