The making of a 'Land Fit for Heroes'

The Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) are running a three week short course which links to our current changing exhibition A Land Fit For Heroes. The course will study how the experience of total war, and the growing opposition to the war, fundamentally changed politics in Britain forever. In the post war period the Labour Party replaced the Liberal Party as the main opposition to the Tories. Revolutionary movements in Russia and across Europe lead to the establishment of Communist Parties, including the Communist Party of Great Britain. Men returning from the front replaced many women in the factories, however, women’s lives had been changed fundamentally by the war. Part of First World War Centenary Programme. Suitable for adults aged 19 and over. Tues 13 January, 1.00pm – 3.00pm: The Labour Party after the war Tues 20 January, 1.00pm – 3.00pm: The Communist Party after the war Tues 27 January, 1.00pm – 3.00pm: Post war outcomes for women
