Fragment of stone inscribed with the late name of the Aten...
Fragment of stone inscribed with the late name of the Aten c1350 BC. House of Aten in Aketaten the Great Temple lying to the north of the Central City.
Part of limestone stela with name Aten from "The house of Aten in Akhet'Aten, "the great temple lying to the north of the royal estate". Purchased by Wellcome at auction in 1930. The Aten temple contained a number of structures including a butcher's yard, an area for offerings with hundreds of alters. Kemp believes that part of the city's inhabitants offered bread on the brick alters south of the Gempaaten ('the Aten is found') while the king and his family offiated in the temple proper (Kemp, B.J. and Garfi, S 1993, 'A survey of the City of El-'Amarna' London p55).
