Leicester City Transport 1950 Leyland Titan PD2 bus number 154 was part of an order for 160 buses that was placed by Leicester City Transport in the mid-1940s to replace the last of the trams and a large number of the pre-war buses.
Arguably the Leyland PD2 was the most successful type of bus ever to operate in Leicester with many of the buses completing twenty years service before being withdrawn. No.154 was delivered in December 1950 and was withdrawn in May 1970.
Initially sold to a dealer it was acquired by an operator for further service work before ending up with a farmer in North Lincolnshire who used it for six years to transport his strawberry pickers. No.154 was then sold to a dealer from where Leicester City Transport re-purchased it in 1981.
The bus was given a comprehensive two year restoration and it was then used for private hire and occasionally in normal service. It was sold to private preservationists in 2008 and is an important member of the Leicester Transport Heritage Trust collection of buses.
