Collaged colour photographs. "Arras Suite Mauve" is one in a series of collages by Liz Rideal made from colour photo-booth strips, showing images of brightly coloured material, draped and stretched in different formations. The series was titled "Arras Suite" to allude to the arras or tapestry which Polonius hides behind in Shakespeare's Hamlet. For this work, a red silk hanging was placed behind a violet one, to produce an effect of warmth. Rideal has worked with the photo-booth format for a number of years, originally taking portraits of herself and others, and then focusing her attention on the background material itself.
