The feather in this photograph was taken from the sleeping bag used by the explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes on his Antarctic expedition. It is almost a relic, providing an entry point for us into the experience. Parker is interested in the symbolic associations carried by objects. "Sometimes I find the tiniest bit of information the most evocative," she commented in an interview for her exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery in 1998.
