photogram. Cornelia Parker's "Feather that went to the South Pole" is a beautiful image in its own right and points to wider concepts of time and place. The feather in this photograph was taken from the sleeping bag used by the explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes on his Antarctic expedition. It is almost a relic, providing an entry point for us into the experience. Parker is interested in the symbolic associations carried by objects. "Sometimes I find the tiniest bit of information the most evocative," she commented in an interview for her exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery in 1998.
