Black stone crocodile. 68mm long. This statue may have been an amulet or an item given as a votive offering to Sobek. Purchased by Wellcome from the Rustafjaell collection in 1906. Crocodiles were sacred to the god Sobek. A better made black stone crocodile of the Late Period-Ptolemaic is published in Daphna Ben-Tor 1997 'The Immortals of Ancient Egypt' p61.
