Siltstone palettes are often found in female graves from around 5500 BC to 2686 BC. They may have been used for grinding the mineral, especially malachite, used to colour around the eyes. Larger, more elaborate examples have also been found which are usually later in date and are interpreted as gifts to the gods. From Tarkhan. Donated by University of Wales Aberystwyth.
