Vasa Museum

Vasamuseet

On 10 August 1628 Vasa set sail on her maiden voyage and sank in Stockholm harbour. The wreck was salvaged in 1961 and today Vasa is one of the world´s foremost tourist attractions. The Vasa Museum has become a natural part of Stockholm’s skyline. Its masts rising high above Djurgården have become a beacon guiding curious tourists and Stockholmers alike.

The Vasa Museum collection consists of the Vasa itself and all of the objects that were found with the ship. We regard it to be a “closed” discovery in which all parts are of equal importance to an understanding of the whole.

The Vasa Museum has eleven permanent exhibitions. In different ways, they examine the ship, the time in which she was built and her recent history.
