Kęstutis Grigaliūnas playground gallery: meeting the laureates

One of the most versatile Lithuanian artists, the National Culture and Art Prize laureate Kęstutis Grigaliūnas is presenting his new exhibition, with its main objective to engage visitors (especially children and youth) in learning experiences in order to enhance their curiosity and interests in visual art.

Interactive works of the exhibition encourage viewers to start an intriguing creative play, where everyone, despite their age or interests, are invited to touch the artworks, create their own original compositions and in this way to become active participants of contemporary art.

The theme of the exhibition evolves around prominent Lithuanian visual artists – laureates of most prestigious award in Lithuania – National Culture and Art Prize, such as Valentinas Antanavičius, Robertas Antinis, Eugenijus Cukermanas, Stasys Eidrigevičius, Jonas Gasiūnas, Sigitas Geda, Adomas Jacovskis, Gintaras Makarevičius, Mindaugas Navakas, Romualdas Požerskis, Petras Repšys, Šarūnas Sauka, Paulius and Svajonė Stanikas, Algirdas Steponavičius, Ričardas Povilas Vaitiekūnas, Vladas Vildžiūnas, Mikalojus Povilas Vilutis. The show aims to represent their certain works that are appropriated, reflected and recreated in the objects of K. Grigaliūnas.

According to art critic Rita Mikučionytė, conceptualism and communication, documentation and collaboration are the main aspects of the work of Kęstutis Grigaliūnas. His critical world-view and artistic provocations often determine the ideas of this talented artist. In the “Playground Gallery” K. Grigaliūnas uses the principles of Fluxus and Pop Art in order to create objects full of subtle irony and paradoxes of daily situations.

The exhibition is part of the creative programme of the Artists’ Association Gallery (Vilnius), based on professional art and art education. This year the “Playground Gallery” has already been presented at Šiauliai Art Gallery and Artists’ Assocation Gallery in Vilnius.
