Design Studio: Processes

How is a chair, a lamp, or a typeface developed? How do designers approach the design process? What kind of cultural and social relevance does design have? The Museum für Gestaltung is launching the Design Studio as a place for active examination, where current and historical design themes can be discussed and tested by visitors themselves. By focusing on processes, the museum presents the contexts in design through exemplary models, projects, and designs, and illustrates the procedures in both design and production. Alongside objects from the museum’s own collections, the exhibition section “What’s Next?”, which was developed in collaboration with the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), opens a window onto the future. The integrated workshop provides visitors with opportunities to
explore the theme in greater depth or to participate in designing.
