The exhibition "Folk Art Inspirations"

Kaunas Picture Gallery, K. Donelaičio St. 16, Kaunas

The exhibition "Folk Art Inspirations".

"Folk Art Inspirations" is the first national exhibition of professional art initiated by the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art. The exhibition aims to present a contemporary visual art inspired by Lithuanian folk art. Alongside are presented reflections of some authors on Lithuanian folk art and its influence.

One of the main ideas of this year's exhibition was the disclosure of what folk art is for the contemporary artists. Some of them were inspired by archetypal symbols found in the most archaic folk art forms and ornamentation. Others enjoy cutting, motifs of folk painting and wood carvings, cloth patterns, wooden folk architecture, carving, ethnographic photography of rural village, folk decorations, folklore, myths, ancient tribal traditions. There are also those who maintain close relationship with folk songs, or the ones who just have a general feeling of their roots. Because of such a variety of inspirations it was decided to bring them to the exhibition, to show everything what contemporary Lithuanian artists regard as folk art, folk tradition, what meanings are transmitted to them by the concept "folk art", and what inspirations they are willing to manifest.

Exhibition works: 22 06 2017–03 09 2017
