The Strength of the Line. Abstraction and Representativeness in Japan and the West

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of amicable relations between Japan and Germany the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe and the Haus im Haus for art exhibitions at the Chamber of Commerce are presenting an exhibition on Japan each. The exhibition at the Chamber of Commerce is focussing on the tea ceremony, a subject that has become practically synonymous with Japan. The exhibition at the MKG is a prime example of mutual inspiration across cultures in the 20th Century, which had become possible only through Japan’s opening in the mid-19th Century.
