Lithuanian and Latvian graphic art exhibition "The Past’s Future"

The dotted lines of time and the counterpoints of memory in the exhibition of Lithuanian and Latvian graphic art  "The Past’s Future".

The Lithuanian and Latvian graphic exhibition unfolds the reflections of multiple temporalities: the intersections of history and present, memory and actuality, reality and illusion. Graphic works express the dialectics of time, which in its own way unlocks similar experiences, factual realities, returnings to the past, seeings and visions.

On the whole, engraving is characterized by the duality that links multiple dimensions of time and space. The graphic reflection of time, continuity, memory and fate leads to the periphery of creation and life, aesthetics and existence, provoking to search for sharper scratchings of the reality and for life engravings.

If we look on the past as a continuous spiral we need to look back at processes and happenings in retrospective to get closer to present day meaning and possible future scenarios. In a time full of uncertainty that we witness today in geopolitical landscape it is important to look at our common history to remember the forms of oppression and the forms of overcoming its effects. The prints of past weather they are made by the hands of professional artist or ordinary life observer as a neighbour in retirement age are the starting point to rethink and rewrite joint attitude towards them with a value that comes with the time qualities.

The circles of cyclical history have a tendency to repeat its circumstances of events and also the way we perceive it. It can’t be a banality to look on history of Latvia and Lithuania as similar paths as there is an urge to seek a positive jet a critical look back at the past.
