Sustancia quemada, de Milena Villalba y Cultura, Confitura... Paisajes Culturales / Burnt Substance, by Milena Villalba and Culture, comfit... Cultural Landscapes

Following the proposed slogan by ICOM, Museums and Cultural Landscapes, it is very clear that if any cultural landscape is inherent in Onda (with permission of the Castle silhouette) is the image of its ancient tile factories. For this reason, we wanted to combine two very different exhibitions in its concept but related with this Onda's cultural landscape, and offering at the same time an interesting dialogue about the stillness and movement. On the one hand, the static photographs of "Burnt Substance" allow us to show and be aware on an industrial past, to the inevitable transformation of the times has relegated into oblivion. The snapshots show empty spaces, without people, only abandoned buildings. But if we look well, and not only with the face eyes, we can see, better feel, something not visible: they were inhabited spaces, with people working, they were vivid and living spaces, and it is our duty don't forget it.

It is our duty as a museum trying to raise awareness, individually and collectively, about a landscape, so intrinsically linked to the Museum's collections. Although it is clear that we cannot fail to mention that without tile factories, old and ruined, we wouldn't have the Museum of tile, new and undamaged. And without people who worked we wouldn't have tiles which conserve, investigate and show.

This set of fixed images contrasts with the installation "Culture, Comfit,... Cultural Landscape", conceived, created and mounted by students from the IES Serra d' Espadà of Onda, under the direction of the Department of Visual Arts, where with a successful and varied way it is expressed the view of the cultural landscape as something lively, diverse, in constant motion and change. Without any doubt, the students, in the development of this work, have aroused the curiosity to know and undestand their immediate environment, buildings and landscapes that are part of our cultural heritage, and not only the manufacturing one.
