"Faces from the Past" – the exhibition dedicated to the 250th birth anniversary of Mykolas Kleopas Oginskis.
Following the Resolution of the Seimas of Lithuania the year 2015 has been announced a year of Mykolas Kleopas Oginskis (1765-1833) – a statesman, diplomat, composer and writer. The UNESCO General Conference has included the 250th birth anniversary of M. K. Oginskis into the list of dates important for the world culture, education, science and historical memory. On this occasion, the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art presents the exhibition Faces from the Past and invites the public to get acquainted with the art collection of the dukes Oginski family.
The collection includes more than 300 paintings, sculptures, graphic works and articles of the applied art. The painting section shows the Oginski family portraits created by Lithuanian, Polish and Western European masters. Engravings by foreign artists, a set of Lithuanian philology, a number of marble busts and other items form a valuable part of the collection. Among the applied art exhibits there are mainly porcelain and decorative bronze statues, also several clocks, three pieces of furniture in Boulle style, the seventeenth century ebony cabinet and secretaire encrusted in ivory, etc.
The exhibition consists of other interesting and valuable exhibits characterising the Oginski artistic taste and cultural interests, hobbies, the environment and thus reflecting the authentic manor atmosphere.
The exhibition has been supported by the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania, the project is a part of State celebration to commemorate the 250th birth anniversary of Mykolas Kleopas Oginskis.
