During the 19th century Gabrovo is recognised as one of the important pottery centres in the country. In this period there are more than 45 pottery workshops situated in two neighbourhoods.
Today in the only open-air museum in Bulgaria, "Etar" – Gabrovo you can find this ancient craft preserved and see how vessels with decoration typical for Gabrovo are produced.
Veselin Damyanov has been a pottery craftsman in "Etar" for a long time. He is highly skilled in making traditional and contemporary ceramics, using a variety of techniques. As an Etar-master he has presented Bulgaria in a number of national and international exhibitions, expositions, festivals and fairs.
In the visiting exhibition from AEC "Etar" in REM – Plovdiv you can enjoy traditional vessels from the museum's fund and pottery made by the hands of the master.
Especially for the youngest guests of the museum there will be demonstrations and interesting activities connected with the craft. In the day of the opening of the exhibition everyone can make something on the potter wheel with the help of the craftsman.
Opening: June 2nd, 2015, 18:00, Regional ethnographic museum – Plovdiv, 2 Dr. Stoyan Chomakov str.
The exhibition will be on display until June 30th.
