The tragic political and social context of the events in Kosovo and Metohija after the NATO bombing, forced the Serbian professionals of the Museum in Priština to cease their activities in the Museum in June 1999 and leave their homes in Priština, in order to seek refuge in the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade and continue their work as a displaced institution.
The aim of the exhibition is to draw attention to the importance of the Museum’s ethnographic collection by presenting photographs of original museum items – dress ensembles, individual garments and various types of jewellery. It will also highlight the need for further study of national heritage on the basis of valuable examples of traditional handicrafts and folk art nurtured in Kosovo and Metohija, as part of the cultural and ethnic identity.
