FRANZ XAVER ÖLZANT. IDEA – PROCESS – FORM

Franz Xaver Ölzant’s production spans more than five decades. While the artist mainly dedicated himself to figurative cast stone and bronze works in the late 1950s, an abstracted image of man and nature came to prevail in his practice in the sixties – and has continued to do so until today. His oeuvre is pivoted on the search for form.

His innovative concept of the plastic has made Franz Xaver Ölzant, born in 1934, one of the most important representatives of Austrian twentieth-century sculpture. The exhibition is the first comprehensive survey of the sculptor’s production.
