The Wood Engravings of Gertrude Hermes and Blair Hughes Stanton

Gertrude Hermes and Blair Hughes-Stanton were two of the leading British wood engravers of the Twentieth-century. They married after meeting in the exhilarating atmosphere of Leon Underwood’s Brook Green School of Drawing and during the 1920s and 30s they created complex and skilled wood engravings of the human form and natural world, as well as important illustrated books.
