Dover and the Great War

During the First World War Dover became an important military centre, a harbour housing the Dover Patrol, and a town ringed by fortifications and airfields. Dover was the first and the last town to be bombed from the air. The Dover Patrol, which began in 1914 as a very small naval command, grew to be one of the most important and famous of the First World War.
