Aleš Gasparič − flutes, ocarina, pipes
Lado Jakša − wind instruments, keyboards
Boštjan Perovšek − computer, soundscapes
Jože Slak − tabla, percussion

Saeta formed in 1977, as the first, and at that time only, group in Slovenia to bring together in its approach organized improvisation, elements of experimental music based on diverse scores, notations, and performance instructions, elements of minimalist (repetitive) music, and live or recorded electroacoustic music of a variety of sound sources. The group has remained faithful to its original approach to this day. Over time, Saeta has become established both at home and abroad, giving concerts in Ljubljana (in the Cankarjev Dom cultural center and as part of the European Month of Culture), in other cities of former Yugoslavia, such as Belgrade (performing at the European Festival of Minimalist Music) and Opatija (at the Music Creativity of Yugoslavia festival), and elsewhere in Europe, e.g. in Paris (at the Biennial of Young Artists) and Graz (at the Steirischer Herbst). In 2002, the group staged the “O-zvočenje 1” event (About-Soundings 1)
together with composers from Slovenia, France, and Serbia and Montenegro. It has continued to give “O-zvočenje” concerts ever since.

SAMO GRAMOFON

Tomaž Grom – double bass, computer, electronic media (effects for real-time sound manipulation, recordings)
Andrej Fon– wind instruments, viktor (wind instrument), bagpipes, electric guitar, guitar effects, sound devices, objects
Samo Kutin – hurdy-gurdy, sound devices, objects

Samo Gromofon is an acronym representing three accomplished improvisers: Tomaž Grom, Andrej Fon, and Samo Kutin. Well known to the Slovenian public, Grom is a pioneer of free improvisation in Slovenia, an activist and concert organizer, one half of the Sploh Institute, composer of cutting-edge music for the theater and children, and much more. Although slightly younger, Fon and Kutin are – separately or in tandem – quite notorious in their own right in improvisation, experimental, noise-rock, singer-songwriter and folk-music circles. The Samo Gromofon trio comes together at various points of convergence of colorful nonidiomatic improvisation, occasionally resorting – on unfathomable cues – to their various musical histories and perhaps a few recognizable samples, incorporated into their confident and attentive flow in a manner that is anything but banal.
