Amongst Heroes: the artist in working Cornwall

Collection of Cornish cultural treasures Maeve Kennedy, The Guardian, Amongst Heroes: the artist in working Cornwall explores representations of working people, the people who manually shaped Cornwall into the place it is today. Miners, fishermen, jowsters, quarry workers, knitters, blacksmiths and farmers, Cornwall's life blood, represented by some of the most influential artists working in Cornwall during the 19th and 20th centuries. Including works by Stanhope Forbes, Harold Harvey, Lucy Kemp-Welch and Henry Scott Tuke this exhibition will give a sense of what working life might have been like for the people depicted. , Previously exhibited with excellent reviews at Two Temple Place in London the exhibition highlights the important role of Cornwall as a centre for the production of a particular kind of realistic, rural art at the end of the 19th century.
