African savanna

The African savannah in the atrium forms the heart of the exhibition, which aims to mediate the complex relationships between different species in this habitat. The barrierless display shows many animals in "action". To bring out the scientist in every visitor, animals can be spied on with binoculars and identified with a species key. A Baobab tree tells stories from its home country.

Africa's vast Savanna region is a grassy plain that covers about one third of the continent. Many endangered Savanna animals, such as the giraffe, survive as megaherbivores, eating large quantities of vegetation and thereby sustaining the Savanna itself.
