Brindley Village - A Legacy of the Great War

Opened in 1916, the Brindley Heath Military Hospital became a feature of the Chase landscape for nearly 40 years. Immediately after the war it treated soldiers suffering from shell shock and gas poisoning. Later, it was purchased by the local colliery company who converted the huts into bungalow type accommodation for its workforce. With this exhibition and a grant from The Heritage Lottery Fund, the Brindley Village Legacy Group hope to capture the essence and spirit of the villagers as they supported each other and developed a close knit community in the aftermath of war.
