Today marks the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Magdala which was the climax of the 1868 Abyssinia Campaign. The King's Own was one of three British Regiments which took part in the campaign, a campaign so expensive it added two pence to the rate of income tax! The King's Own marched 400 miles to the fortress capital of Magdala and released European hostages held by Emperor Theodore. Curator Peter Donnelly tells the story of the Regiment, using wonderful photographs from the campaign, regimental records and the letters of Lieutenant Herbert Borrett written home to his wife.
