Scotland's Early Silver

Explore the story of Scotland’s early silver and discover how silver became the most important precious metal in Scotland over the course of the first millennium AD. Scotland’s Early Silver tells the story of this powerful material during a pivotal time, from the arrival of the Roman army until the dawn of the Viking Age. Featuring jewellery, vessels, coins and other finds, the exhibition presents new research showing the ways in which silver was used and reused throughout changing times, as Roman Iron Age tribal societies gave way to the patchwork of early medieval kingdoms which would eventually become Scotland. Scotland’s Early Silver has been made possible by an innovative partnership between The Glenmorangie Company and National Museums Scotland, a unique multi award-winning cultural partnership which is now in its ninth year.
