The Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office began hallmarking in 1327 – making it the oldest UK Assay Office. A hallmark is a guarantee of the quality of a piece of metalwork. It includes information on where the piece was hallmarked, what it is made from and who sent it for hallmarking.
David will speak about the hallmarking process, with hints and tips about what to look for and how to read a hallmark, before taking a look at your silverware.
