Museums at Night - Banknotes and Bullion

With over 325 years of history, it’s not surprising that the Bank has a few ghost stories to tell, one of the spookiest being the story of the Bank Nun. Some say they have seen her ghostly figure, dressed in black and wearing a full black veil over her face, slowly wandering around the Bank late at night. This figure was believed to be Sarah Whitehead, otherwise known as the Bank Nun. The mysterious tale will be retold by our storyteller at 6pm, 7pm and 8pm, in the museum cinema. Throughout the night, the museum and archive teams will be revealing some of the unique and intriguing objects from the Bank’s collection. This is the perfect opportunity to get your hands on some of these fascinating objects, each with its own story to tell. You can also take the chance to explore the banknote gallery, which tells the story of banknotes and how they have evolved over the years. For this special event, banknote experts will be giving short talks about our current notes and explaining how to use their advanced design and security features to identify forgeries. Admission and all activities are free, and there's no need to book.
