Louise Rayner boarded with a chemist Robert Shearing in 1869. The 1860's saw terrible ill - health among Chester's poor; disease like smallpox, Cholera and tuberculosis were rife. People couldn't afford to see a doctor, so it was left to the pharmacist to offer cures and preparations. Join us in our chemist's shop to learn about Victorian medicines and the weird and wonderful instruments they used. Have a go at mixing your own remedies and potions and take home a herbal -scented medicine bag to ease your nerves!
