Lecture. My Love to the Academy: Leighton's Last Works

Art historian Elizabeth Prettejohn explores Leighton's masterpiece, Flaming June and the other paintings featured in the exhibition. It places Leighton’s paintings in the wider context of the Royal Academy exhibitions of the 1890s, and asks whether Leighton’s last works should be considered his greatest achievements. Elizabeth Prettejohn is Professor of History of Art at the University of York. Her books include The Art of the Pre-Raphaelites, Art for Art’s Sake and The Modernity of Ancient Sculpture. She has co-curated exhibitions on Alma-Tadema, Rossetti and Waterhouse, and has co-written the catalogue for Flaming June: The Making of an Icon.
