To commemorate the founding of the War Department Light Railways in 1916, we create the fictitious rail-served supply base of Croix-Pierre. Passengers will arrive on troop trains, and experience the hustle and bustle of a front-line operation The railway itself was built in 1919, with war-surplus materials and equipment, to transport sand from the local quarries. Elsewhere, we will be showing the Imperial War Museums film "The Battle of the Somme".
