Somme 100 Commemoration

Join us for a day of Commemorative activities to mark the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. There will be children’s activities, including poppy crafts and a chance to get hands on with some First World War kit. We’re also pleased to be hosting a talk entitled The Battle of the Somme – The first day and beyond by Dr Chris Kempshall at 1pm, which will discuss the planning, events, and legacy of the Battle of the Somme. It will examine the disastrous first day of the battle, the worst in the history of the British Army, and also the longer term effect of the battle on the remainder of the war. And at 3pm there will be a screening of the 1916 film The Battle of the Somme, featuring documentary footage of the early days of the Battle. Normal Fort admission prices apply.
