The British Army and the Olympic Games: The Road to Rio and Beyond

The British Army has a long history of developing athletes that have gone on to achieve success at the Olympic Games, representing their country on what has become the ultimate stage for sporting excellence. Indeed, the Corinthian aspects of sport have often been likened to the qualities needed of soldiers in battle. Major General Shaun Burley CB MBE, Director of the Army Sport Control Board, and Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Alan Billings OBE, from the Army Elite Sport Programme, will provide an update on the importance of sport in the British Army and how athletes are being prepared for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio 2016 and beyond.
