We Are Us and They Are Them?

In this philosophical enquiry session we discuss life as a young person in Middlesbrough versus life as young person living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We wonder about similarities, differences and the things that make identity and lived experience. Led by Helen Wickens, Learning Assistant Curator.

This event is for 14 – 24 year olds and organised by The Wonder Whys, a group of inquisitive young people who are interested in doing, making and questioning the world in which we live.

This event takes place in The Cercle d’Art des Travailleurs de Plantation Congolaise, an exhibition by a group based in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa. It brings together plantation workers who engage in art making at settlements of the Institute for Human Activities in the country’s rainforest. This organisation was established by the Dutch artist Renzo Martens for the purpose of effecting social change. This exhibition features sculptural portraits cast in Belgian chocolate.
