BHS: Star Instruments

Much used in the English and French music, the viol and the harpsichord share a range of repertoire. This programme focuses on viol music set for the keyboard, in a variety of periods, from the beginning of a famous English viol school in the 16th century to the famous French viol master Forqueray from the 18th century. Marie van Rhijn (harpsichord) will perform these pieces along with arrangements she has prepared herself to further illustrate the fluidity of this repertoire which was often written for other basso continuo instruments such as the theorbo, organ and flute.
