Join us, as we celebrate the achievements of Lancelot “Capability” Brown at Harewood in a series of walks, talks and exhibitions; there is something for everyone from novice to enthusiast to enjoy. Explore the history behind Harewood’s connection with Brown and join one of our expert talks in the landscape itself. Talks and tours will include:
Finding Mr Brown in Yorkshire with Peter Goodchild: an academic look at Brownian designs and exploring the history behind his connection with Harewood. This talk includes fascinating insight into the men behind the Brownian designs.
“Capable” Gardening with Trevor Nicholson. Join Harewood’s Head Gardener on an exploration of the “Capability” Brown parkland. Learn about how 1000 acres of Grade 1 listed landscape is maintained and managed in 2016.
Infinite Landscapes. Join Brian Liddy, curator from the National Media Museum and photographer/film-maker Simon Warner, in a walk through Browns’ landscape photographed by Roger Fenton, a pioneering Victorian photographer in 1860. See the original images captured by Fenton before you explore the parkland, taking your own images from the same locations framed by Fenton.
