Beer has always played an important part in the history of Northampton.
From the small scale publican brewers of the 16th and 17th centuries, to the large scale brewers of the 19th century, all provided a vital service to the people of the town.
In the 19th century there were 60 pubs brewing their own beer and 15 larger scale breweries just within Northampton.
Brewing still plays a major part in the town- Carlsberg is a major employer, Frog Island Brewery make traditional ales and Phipps brewery has become re-established after it returned to Northampton in 2004.
Whose Round Is It will look at the part this industry has played in a town that still has over 70 pubs.
In celebration of our 150th anniversary, real ale connoisseurs should keep an eye on the museum shop for the launch of our exclusive limited edition beer, brewed especially for this exhibition to a special heritage recipe!
